October 31, 2024The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District is the largest independent fire district in Florida, providing emergency response and life safety services to the Chokoloskee, Everglades City, Golden Gate, East Naples, Isles of Capri, Port of the Islands, and surrounding communities.
SITUATION
Naples, Florida, was impacted by two major hurricanes in less than five years. The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District determined that hardening its six most vulnerable stations was the best means of remaining functional following storm impacts.
TASK
iParametrics was contracted to support the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District through the Hurricane Ian disaster recovery process. We supported the Fire District through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) application process. We supported the application process, from identifying the projects to attending meetings with the necessary state and federal staff. Our team provided technical guidance and submitted the application on time to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
ACTION
With the Board of Commissioners’ approval, the iParametrics team developed an application to support the hardening of six stations, including bay door upgrades, improved windows, and hardened roof structures, to ensure all buildings met the latest building code.
RESULT
Working with local engineers, the team successfully submitted the necessary application with engineering support of the quotes for $4.6 million to harden all six stations to current wind load compliance.
